Celia Mary CLAYTON, 84, a resident of Nelson Nursing Home since April 1978, died there at 8 a.m. today.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will be in Sun City, Ariz. A memorial has been established to the Leapfrog Sculpture Fund.
Mrs. CLAYTON was born Aug. 21, 1903 in Clayton County, the daughter of August and Mary ROHN BEYER. She graduated from Elkader High School and attended Iowa State University. She married Lloyd E. CLAYTON July 29, 1922 in Dubuque and lived in various Iowa communities before moving to Fairfield in 1946. She was a homemaker, a past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star, an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and for several years directed the Girl Scout program in Fairfield. She and her husband lived in Sun City, Ariz., for 12 years after he retired as Jefferson County Engineer. They returned to Fairfield in 1978.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Marni MELLEN of Fairfield; a granddaughter, Darcy MELLEN-SULLIVAN of Madison, Wis.; a great-grandson and a sister, Lucy McCARTHY of St. Paul, Minn. A sister and three brothers preceded her in death.
