Donna Jean COPE

Donna Jean COPE, 88, of Floris, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids (note: in Linn Co., IA).

Visitation opened at noon today; family will be present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Puppy Jake Foundation or the National Stroke Association. Online condolences can be left at www.kremerfh.com.

Mrs. COPE was born March 1, 1928, in Webster City, daughter of Wallace and Mary CLAUSSEN NELSON. She married Walter COPE in 1946 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1992.

She attended school in the Webster City and Cedar Rapids area. She graduated from high school in 1945.

In 1958, the COPE family moved from Cedar Rapids to their farm near Eldon and Floris, which they named Waldon Acres.

Mrs. COPE worked on the farm and was active in the community, Selma Methodist Church and the Cardinal school district.

Mrs. COPE was a devoted and caring spouse. She provided care for her husband at home and in the hospital after he suffered a brain aneurysm in 1986, until his death in 1992.

She remained on the farm until earlier this month.

Survivors include: six children, Thomas COPE and wife Brenda of Bloomfield, Marcia OSBORN and husband Timothy of Mystic, Donald COPE and wife Kathy of both Apache Junction, Arizona, and Troy Mills, William COPE and wife Vickie of Fremont, James COPE and wife Margaret of Drakesville, and Amy of Bloomington, Indiana; one sister, Phyllis ELLIOTT of Florissant, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one grandchild; one brother, Merlin NELSON; and two sisters, Betty GATER and Joyce COPE.
