Thomas LARSON

Thomas Edward LARSON, 64, of Urbandale and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, after suffering a heart attack while on vacation near Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Urbandale.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Easter Seals Iowa Foundation, Aldersgate United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. LARSON was born April 27, 1952, in Fairfield, the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth MURFIELD LARSON.

He grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from University of Iowa in 1974. He became a licensed certified public accountant.

Mr. LARSON moved to Des Moines and worked for Ernst & Young before joining several colleagues in forming LWBJ, a CPA, business advisory and M&A firm headquartered in West Des Moines. He led the firm's Attest Services practice.

Mr. LARSON was a member and past president of the West Des Moines Rotary and served on the board of the Easter Seals Iowa Foundation. He was a member of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.

He enjoyed playing cards, golfing with friends, University of Iowa athletics, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and traveling with his friend Ut Le.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ellen LARSON of Urbandale; one brother, James LARSON of Chicago; and one sister, Nancy LATHROP of West Branch.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
