Mabel M. WELLS

Mabel M. WELLS, 98, of Keosauqua, died at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Keosauqua Christian Church, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Memorials to Keosauqua Christian Church can be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 22905 Great River Road, LeClaire, 52753.

Mrs. WELLS was born July 2, 1917, in rural Keosauqua, the daughter of Benjamin and Dott ROUSH WHITCANACK. She married Everett L. WELLS May 8, 1938, at her parents' home near Keosauqua. Mr. WELLS died Nov. 9, 1975.

Mrs. WELLS graduated from Keosauqua High School.

She and her husband farmed in Van Buren County and served many years as co-managers of Cerro Gordo County Care Facility in Mason City. They retired to Birmingham in 1975, and she moved to Keosauqua 20 years ago.

Mrs. WELLS was an active member of Keosauqua Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship. She was the only surviving charter member of Stockport Chapter No. 544 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include: one son, Kriss WELLS and wife Martha EASTER-WELLS of LeClaire; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl WHITCANACK of Keosauqua; and one sister, Betty HENDRICKS, also of Keosauqua.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one daughter, Carol WELLS; three brothers, Harold and Karl WHITCANACK in childhood and Rex WHITCANACK; and two sisters, Pauline SHIPLEY and Fraces (sic - Frances?) DODDS.
