William P. "Bill" CAMPBELL, 84, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Windmill Manor in Coralville (note: in Johnson Co., IA).
Bill chose to be cremated. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Windmill Manor of Coralville. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
Born July 6, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Paul & Catherine (SMITH) CAMPBELL, Bill grew up in Fairfield and Princeton, Illinois. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949, and received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration from Parsons College in Fairfield. After serving in the Army for two years, he returned to Fairfield and began his career as a junior high school teacher. In 1966, he and his family moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where he taught classes and helped with activities at Pershing College. In 1969, he moved back to Iowa, beginning a long career teaching history at Vernon Middle School, in Marion. An avid sports fan, he coached basketball and track during much of his career. He retired from teaching in 1995. He moved to Windmill Manor in 2014.
Survivors include his sons, Chas CAMPBELL of Cedar Rapids and Bill CAMPBELL of Iowa City, and his grandsons, Ben CAMPBELL of North Liberty and Sam MRSTIK of Dallas, Texas.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry.
