Raymond ZARAGOZA

Raymond ZARAGOZA, 83, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, March 13, 2016.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hills Mortuary in San Antonio.

Arrangements are with Mission Park Funeral Chapels North in San Antonio.

Mr. ZARAGOZA was born March 15, 1932, in Irapuato, Mexico, the son of Natividad and Maria Luisa SANCHEZ ZARAGOZA. He married Esperanza GONZALEZ in 1955. She preceded him in death.

His parents moved their family to Fairfield in 1942. Mr. ZARAGOZA attended Fairfield High School.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) from 1952-1954. He was awarded three Bronze Service Stars.

He worked at Iowa Malleable Iron Company in Fairfield.

Mr. ZARAGOZA graduated from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, with a culinary arts degree in 1976.

He was manager at Fiesta Cantina in Ottumwa, then become the food service director at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.

Mr. ZARAGOZA and his wife opened Don Quixote Restaurant in Des Moines. They moved to Texas to become hotel managers for La Quinta Inns in Brownsville, Texas. They retired in 2001 and moved to San Antonio to be with their children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: his daughters, Maria AMES of Fairfield, Mary Elizabeth BREON and her husband, Danny, Estella ZARAGOZA; son-in-law, Michael FLORES, all of San Antonio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Victor ZARAGOZA and Rene ZARAGOZA, both of Fairfield.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Raymond; and his daughter, Lourdes.
