Clarence Otis WHITAKER

CLARENCE OTIS WHITAKER, 88 of WINTER HAVEN, FL. - Mr. Clarence Otis WHITAKER, born June 23, 1927, to Syrrel WHITAKER and Mary J. RICH, in Roadhouse, Greene Co., IL; passed away on February 28, 2016, at the age of 88, in Winter Haven, Florida.

Mr. WHITAKER's career began at Cable Lumber Co. where he built his first house for his family before becoming a carpenter for Grooms Brothers Construction, Ottumwa, IA. During this time he built a Medical Office in Fairfield, now the Rose Foot Care, The Libertyville School and the Libertyville Savings Bank in Libertyville, IA. After 19 years as superintendent doing residential and commercial work, he moved his family to Orlando, Florida and began working for Tuttle White Constructors, Inc., and Welbro Constructors, Inc. He advanced to Site Manager Commercial, retiring after 22 years. During this time he oversaw the building of WET n WILD parks in Orlando and Dallas, TX. He also built several high rise hotels In Orlando.

Mr. WHITAKER had six children who were initially raised in Libertyville, IA. He is survived by his daughter Judith (John) HARVEY, The Villages, FL, sons Daniel (Sandy) WHITAKER, Sierra Vista, AZ, Stephen (Nancy) WHITAKER, Winter Haven, FL, Carl (Laura) WHITAKER, Dwight (Debbie) WHITAKER, both of The Villages, FL, Stuart WHITAKER, Winter Haven, FL; two brothers: Russell (Jane) WHITAKER, Brighton, IA, Lester (Kay) WHITAKER, Pleasant Plain, IA; two sisters Hazel (Danny) GREINER, Brighton, IA, Geraldine (Don) HESTON, Tennessee Ridge, TN; 11 grandchildren [Tammy (Jerry) PARKER, Des Moines, IA & Chris (Art) GARRISON of Fairfield] and 12 great grandchildren [Jaclyn PARKER of Des Moines, Danielle & Justin GARRISON, Fairfield].

He was predeceased by his parents and two infant siblings, a sister, Winifred (Hollis) LAUDERDALE, two brothers Syrrel (Fae) WHITAKER Jr., Guy (Myrna and Phoebe) WHITAKER, one granddaughter Teri Anne WHITAKER.

He has asked that he be cremated. There will be a memorial service at a later date. He will be buried at Maple Hill in Brighton, IA (note: in Washington Co., IA).

Clarence Otis WHITAKER

Clarence Otis WHITAKER, 88, of Winter Haven, Florida, and formerly of Libertyville, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, in Winter Haven.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated.

A memorial service will be 5-6 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activities Building.

Mr. WHITAKER was born June 23, 1927, in Roadhouse, Illinois, the son of Syrrel WHITAKER and Mary J. RICH.
