JoAnn 'Jody' HUGHES

JoAnn "Jody" HUGHES, 61, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 4th, 2016 in Fairfield, Iowa. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit on the Square in Fairfield at 3:00pm, Sunday, March 20th. It is open to the community. Donations can be made to Camphill Village at Camphill.org. Interment of the cremains will be in Bear Creek Church Cemetery in Osceola, MO, at a later date. Cards and flowers can be sent to Richard HUGHES, 809 S. 5th St., Fairfield, IA, 52556.

JoAnn (CRAWFORD) was born May 21, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Joe and Betty CRAWFORD. She married Richard J. HUGHES of Cincinnati on Dec. 15, 1972. They lived in Cincinnati after which they moved to New York City. Concurrently working and studying for her CPA exams, Jody was employed by the Sydney Frank Importing Co, Inc. of New Rochelle, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science in 1984 from Pace University and was a licensed and registered CPA in the state of New York.

Jody and her husband Ric started their family, bringing Phillip in 1986 and then Amelia in 1988 into the world. Both children attended school in the Ghent, NY. area in the tradition of Waldorf Schools. Jo Ann (sic) enjoyed being on the Board of Directors for the Camphill Village of Copake, NY. using her generous heart and accounting skills to further establish a unique therapeutic residential farm community for disabled and special needs residents. She received a Special Recognition for her work from CampHill Villages, dedicated to the teaching of Rudolph Steiner.

In addition to her professional accounting career, she shared her life-long love of animals by becoming a hobbyist dog-breeder with her family. Among her other interests were gourmet food and cooking.

The family, on Jody's behalf would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to her caring and devoted husband, Ric. He has been her primary caregiver over the last 11 years. Also a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the friends in Fairfield and the surrounding areas, and those who came to her home as Home Health Aides and Service Workers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Betty CRAWFORD, formerly of Cincinnati, OH. and Fairfield, IA. Surviving children are her son, Phillip Ian HUGHES of Albany, NY. her daughter, Amelia Rae (Ryan) HUGHES of Ottumwa, IA. and one grandson, Jaxsen David DUNHAM. Her surviving four siblings include Peggy D. CRAWFORD of Rock Island, IL., Carol (David) CRAWFORD CARLISLE, Alice G. (Jason) CRAWFORD TAYLOR, and Charles C. CRAWFORD, all of Fairfield, IA.

She felt so blessed to be able to be near her family and grandson in the later years of her life. Her family will always carry her memory and courageous spirit in their hearts.
