LaVerne O'Connor, 82, of Redwood Falls, Minn., and formerly of Fairfield, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Redwood Falls Hospital in Redwood Falls.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Redwood Falls.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sisters of St. Francis, 3221 South Lake Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53235.

LaVerne O'Connor was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Chicago Heights, Ill., the daughter of John and Pauline Heinzen Smith. She married Joseph O'Connor Oct. 21, 1950.

She attended grade school at St. Anne's parochial school and Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. After her graduation in 1939, she attended business college in Chicago. She later was employed by several businesses and as secretary for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

After 21 years in Brookfield, Ill., she and her husband resided in Fairfield from 1972 to 2004, when they moved to Redwood Falls.

Mrs. O'Connor was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield and its Altar and Rosary societies and served as volunteer for the church.

She enjoyed playing Scrabble, writing and receiving letters, doing puzzles, reading mystery books and traveling. Favorite activities were crafting, sewing Halloween toys and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Tom O'Connor and wife Derry of Des Moines, Joan Ackerman and husband Bob of Woodridge, Ill., and Maureen Gano and husband Ken of Redwood Falls; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters.
