Floyd Maurice Filson, 82, of Birmingham died at 6:47 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peggy Egbert officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jefferson County Hospital Hospice Room or the family.

Mr. Filson was born June 29, 1922, in Birmingham, the son of Earl Maurice and Hazel Belle Carl Filson. He married Irene Hartley Aug. 11, 1951, at Eldon Methodist Church in Eldon.

He was a lifelong member of the Birmingham community. A graduate of Birmingham High School, he farmed in Union Township of Van Buren County. He had been employed as a meat cutter at the Farmers Store in Birmingham for 15 years.

Mr. Filson was president of the Bonnett Club for 50 years, a member of the Van Buren Community School board for 12 years and served on the Birmingham Homecoming Committee. A member of the Hee-Haw Community Theatre show for three years, he announced the "Korn" news.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Sandy Nelson and husband Joe of Fairfield, Judy Nicholson and husband Mike of Batavia, Mike Filson and wife Evelyn of Birmingham and Gary Filson and wife Deanna of Stockport; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Esther Cunningham of Keosauqua, Ruth Carter of Douds, Raymond Filson of Birmingham and Van Filson of Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille Taylor and Ida Mae McGreer; and one infant brother.
