Tuesday, September 21, 2004Dorothy L. MELINSKY, 84, of Alexandria, Va., and formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria.
The funeral will be held at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Edward O'Melia officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Catholic Charities.
Ms. MELINSKY was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Washington County, the daughter of Frank and Victoria SHELANGOWSKI MELINSKY.
She attended St. James school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School.
She was employed as a legal secretary for Holme, Roberts, More and Owen law firm, as engineering secretary for Union Supply Co. and as stenographer for Hill Air Force Base and the office of price administration for McClellan Stores. She retired in 1978 from employment as a paralegal for the United States government.
Ms. MELINSKY was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington and St. Thomas Moore Cathedral in Arlington, Va.
A member of the Potomac River Jazz Club, she had several articles published in the Mississippi Rag, a Minneapolis jazz and ragtime newspaper, and in jazz club newsletters.
Survivors include several cousins. She is the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Celesta MELINSKY.
