Gerald Wayne KIRK

LETTS - Gerald Wayne KIRK, Sr., 77, of Letts, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be in Letts Cemetery with military rites (note: in Louisa Co., IA).

Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Letts Community Center. Visitation for Gerald will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established for the Louisa County First Responders and the Letts Library in memory of Gerald. Sympathy notes may be left for the KIRK family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Gerald Wayne KIRK, Sr. was born on June 2, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Glenn Wayne and Alberta (SCHELL) KIRK. On February 13, 1957, Gerald married Darlene Kay HOLLIDAY in Oakland, California.

Gerald served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Gregory Destroyer and a cargo ship. Gerald was a pipefitter/welder helping build Monsanto, GPC and most nuclear plants. He was a member of the Local Union 25 and the masonic organization.

Gerald was active in the Letts community and volunteered as site director of the Letts Community Building and Park Building projects. He attended Glad Tiding Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He also enjoyed working on his trike.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children, Tammy (Ray) HAILE, Lisa (Tom) STEEN, Jerry (Christine) KIRK, Jr., and Randy (Trish Farriell) KIRK; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Don BREWER; brother, Donnie KIRK; grandson, Jacob KIRK and great-granddaughter-Graci SANCHEZ.
