Robert MILLER

Robert Paul MILLER, 100, of Batavia, died at 9:15 p.m. November 19, 2015 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Robert was a lifelong resident of Batavia, IA. He was born July 31, 1915 to Martin and Eva WHITMORE MILLER. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1933. He married Dorothy SHIERY on June 4, 1939, quitting his third year of college at Iowa State. Dorothy and Robert had two daughters, Camille and Jackie and divorced December 2, 1942. Robert then married Katherine MILLER ADAMS on June 30, 1944 who had a daughter, Carolyn. Katherine and Robert had three children, Joseph, David and Christine. After their children were raised, they opened their home to over 15 foreign exchange students. They were married for 58 years until Katherine's death on September 20, 2002.

Robert retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works on February 28, 1982. He then worked several years at his recycling business. During his lifetime he had several jobs. Some were working at his furniture store in Ames, for Whitham's Nursery in Agency and John Morrell & Co. in Ottumwa. He always remembered fondly his summer part-time college job at the Sebastiani Cannery in Sonoma, CA.

He was saved as a sophomore in high school and attended church regularly; he loved to go to church and shared God's word whenever he could. He was a very generous man, helping and giving to strangers, friends and family alike. He enjoyed being with people and liked to entertain them with a song or a story from his excellent memory. He was also deeply concerned for our country and worked in politics, caucusing, being a delegate and campaigning for and contributing to the candidates that he believed in.

Surviving are his children, Joe MILLER (Deb Hooper), David (Pam) MILLER and Christine (Tom) SNELLING; grandchildren, Jay (Karen) CRESTA, Tonya (Brian) VOTROUBEK, Joe Junior (Leigh) MILLER, Penny MORGAN, Paul (Kristin) MILLER, Steve (Heather) MILLER, Seth (Dianna) MILLER and Dan (Karen) SNELLING; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Pat) MILLER.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard (Marie) MILLER; sisters, Evelyn (Ralph) WARD and Pauline (Marvin) KIEWS; daughters, Camille MILLER, Jackie CRESTA and Carolyn STARK; and a grandson, Charlie MILLER.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Pastor Debra Muntz officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Visitaiton begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
