John E. ESTLE, age 72 of Fairfield died at his home on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 with his family by his side.
John was born at home in Troy, Iowa on January 13, 1943 to Otto and Pauline RICHARDSON ESTLE. John attended school in Troy until the family moved to Fairfield, he graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1961.
John was united in marriage to Connie Sue SIEREN on February 23, 1963 in Ottumwa.
John was a 4th generation grading contractor. Growing up, John and his brother Jim "tagged along" with their father on many road and grading projects.
John worked for a short time at Rockwell International. From 1969-1994 John was a partner in the grading contracting business. Estle - DeLong Grading contractors moved many yards of dirt in Jefferson and nearby counties.
He had a passion for helping people and serving his community. John served one term on the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors.
He was a member of KAABA Shriners, Clinton Masonic Lodge #15, A.F. & A.M., International Watch Fob Association, and the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club.
His hobbies included: piloting his own airplane, restoring classic cars, custom mowing, collecting Caterpillar equipment, collecting watch fobs, telling stories and jokes, aggravating his grandchildren, spending time with his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim ESTLE.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie; his children Christine ESTLE of Fairfield, John "Sam" and his wife Melinda ESTLE of Lockridge, Susan ESTLE of Washington, Iowa, Robert and his wife Denise ESTLE of Fairfield and his six grandchildren: Ashley PARRISH, Abbey BOGNER, Breanna ESTLE, Jake ESTLE, Jonathon ESTLE and Whitney ESTLE. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley BURK, Mary SELIG, Rosalie MUNN and George ESTLE.
A Celebration of Life will be from 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday, October 31st at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds with words by Dick Kessler.
Interment of cremains will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ARC of Jefferson and nearby counties for Camp Courageous Camperships.
Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
