Alice J. DAVIS

Alice J. DAVIS, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Park Place Elder Care in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

A funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Trevor Davis and the Rev. Carl Ratcliff officiating. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery in Lynnville.

Visitation wil be noon to 7 p.m. Friday at the memorial chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Online condolences can be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

Anna Alice JONES was Oct. 27, 1917 (sic), in Richland, the daughter of Martin James and Ada Eudoxie CHAMBERLIN JONES. She married John L. DAVIS June 1, 1943, in Richland.

She graduated from Richland High School in 1935 and William Penn College in 1940.

For 40 years, Mrs. DAVIS worked as a teacher in Clio, Springdale, Washington and Fairfield scool (sic) districts.

While at Springdale, she taught and coached basketball at the high school level.

She taught in the Washington school district for 20 years whyile living at Marr Park, near Ainsworth, where Mr. DAVIS was the executive officer for Washington County Conservation Board.

She was a member of the Jefferson County Retired School Personnel.

Mrs. DAVIS was known for her faithful study of God's word and long-held reputation as a prayer warrior. For many years, she invited children to her home for Bible study after school.

She was a member of Salem Friends Church.

Survivors include: five sons, Steven DAVIS of Moravia, Donald DAVIS and wife Rita of Mt. Pleasant, David DAVIS and wife Janet of Battle Ground, Washington, Philip DAVIS and wife Lee Ann of Lake View, and Paul DAVIS and wife Adora of Jacksonville, Florida; 19 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two sisters, Eleanora and Doris; one brother, Joe; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
