Harriet (SPELTZ) GLUBKA

Harriet (SPELTZ) GLUBKA, 97, died peacefully Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in her room at Churchill Estates Retirement Community in Eugene OR, surrounded by family.

Harriet was born in Altura MN in 1918, grew up on a farm with six siblings, and graduated from Winona High School.

She married Harry Addison GLUBKA of Winona in 1940. Addison died in 1969. The couple had five children.

Harriet loved learning. While in the midst of mothering, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Educational Counseling from Winona State College. In later life she became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation and lived for years in Fairfield, Iowa where a university associated with the TM Movement is located.

While in Iowa, she helped organize a Peer Group for older Meditators and was a member of a Meditator's writing group. Her writing is published in the group's collection, Being Our Own Heroes. Harriet also became an Options Dialogue counselor, valued by many as an insightful, helpful listener.

At the age of 93 she moved to Churchill Estates to be near her son Larry and her daughter Karen.

Harriet is survived by her five children: Mark GLUBKA of Fairfield IA; Ronald GLUBKA and his wife Pamela of St. Paul Park MN; Karen WELDON and her husband Phillip of Albany OR; Larry GLUBKA and his wife Nancy of Eugene OR; Shirley GLUBKA and her spouse Virginia HOLMES of Prospect ME; also by her sister Violet REYNOLDS of Walnut Creek CA; her brother Everett SPELTZ and his wife Barbara of LaCrescent MN (sic - La Crescent, MN); her sister-in-law Dixie SPELTZ of Pueblo CO; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
