Iona Barker, 82, of Chillicothe, Mo., and formerly of Fairfield and Batavia, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Calling hours for friends in Chillicothe are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Livingston County 4-H Foundation can be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Mo. 64601.

Mrs. Barker was born Dec. 6, 1921, in rural Jefferson County, the daughter of Mahlon and Olive Monson McCormick. She married Joseph Barker Aug. 15, 1947, in Fairfield.

She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1939. She moved to Chillicothe from Muscatine in 1996.

Mrs. Barker was a member of United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, the Hannah-Naomi-Ruth Circle and Senior Adult Ministers. In addition, she was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Muscatine and served as Worthy Matron. She also was a 4-H member and leader, and member of the Rebekah Lodge in Fairfield, Royal Neighbors of America and the Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rick Barker and wife Betty of Topeka, Kan., and Mahlon Barker and wife Sandy of Dallas Center; two daughters, Cathy Wombwell and husband Glenn of Marceline, Mo., and Marti Miller and husband Mike of Chillicothe; two brothers, Leland McCormick of Iowa City and Virgil McCormick of Milan, Ill.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bernard McCormick.
