Lonny J. Brooks, 78, of Milford, Ill., died at 9:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, with the Rev. Neil Larimore officiating. A graveside service with military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brethren Cemetery in Batavia.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mr. Brooks was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Wapello County, the son of Willard and Cara Bailey Brooks. He married Mary Alyce Gibson in 1951 in Ottumwa.

He was honored with the Purple Heart for his service in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific theater of operations.

He was employed at American Can Co. in Tampa, Fla., for many years.

Survivors include his wife; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his twin brother, Larry Brooks of Centerville; and one sister, Judy Wallace of Naples, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Patrick Michael Brooks.
