Mary Alice McDowell, 50, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Burial will be in Oakland Mills Cemetery near Mount Pleasant.

Visitation began at noon today at the funeral home; family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today.

A memorial in the name of Mary Alice McDowell has been established to Oakland Mills Cemetery.

Mrs. McDowell was born May 10, 1954, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Iliff Sulvester and Ruby Lavena Harrison Mills. She married Mark McDowell Jan. 31, 1976, in Des Moines. They later divorced.

She graduated from Fairfield High School and IBM Business College. She was employed as a legal secretary in Des Moines, Chicago, Mississippi and other communities. She returned to Mount Pleasant in 2000.

Mrs. McDowell was active in the Baha'i faith.

Survivors include one sister, Sharon Rhum of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Edwin Leroy Mills of Deming, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Warren Mills.
