Ronald Jeffery "Jeff" Putnam
August 12, 2004Ronald Jeffery "Jeff" Putnam, 50, of Wapello and formerly of Fairfield, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, in Wapello, following a battle with cancer.
He was born June 26, 1954, in Oskaloosa, the son of Elmer Franklin and Vesta Jean Latcham Putnam. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1972 and served in the United States Navy following graduation. He married Deborah Spath on April 12, 1980, in Fairfield. They later divorced. On May 30, 1987, he married Tamara Shipman in Oakville. They also divorced.
While living in Fairfield, he worked for Iowa Malleable for 4 years. He moved to the small communities of Louisa County and worked at the U.S. Gypsum plant in Mediapolis for 10 years and the Letica Corporation in Muscatine for the last 4.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Ducks Unlimited of Southeast Iowa. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball and in recent years, NASCAR. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bears fan.
Jeff is survived by his father of Davenport; his former wife, Tammy Shipman of Wapello; 2 sons, Ahrim Strider Putnam and wife Tonya, and Jackson Thomas, all of Fairfield; 4 daughters, Ashley and Mara Putnam of Janesville, WI, and Jaymi and Josey Putnam of Wapello; 3 grandsons, Colton and Cannon Putnam of Fairfield, and Donovan Coffey of Janesville, WI; 1 granddaughter, Hayli Putnam of Fairfield; 1 sister, Paula Keller of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews as well as friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vesta Jean, and an infant granddaughter, Kassi Lynn Putnam.
He was cremated as according to his wishes, and a private family memorial service was held in Oakville, Iowa, on Monday, August 9, 2004.
