James Leroy ROGERS

James Leroy ROGERS, 70, of What Cheer, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Burial will be in Indianapolis Cemetery at What Cheer (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Visitation begins at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with family present from 4-8 p.m.

Mr. ROGERS was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Oskaloosa the son of Oden DeWitt ROGERS and Eva Lorene PIERCEL. He married Donna Sue VAN PATTEN April 10, 1965.

He was a 1962 graduate of Tri-County South High School. He attended American Institute of Business for two years in accounting.

The couple lived in Williamsburg, where Mr. ROGERS worked as an accountant for Farm Service. For several years, he was a successful feed salesman with Ralston Purina and Wake's Feed. In 1978, he and his wife purchased a farm in What Cheer when he decided to pursue his passion for farming along side his wife and sons.

Mr. ROGERS was full of life enjoying it completely whether it be playing cards and square dancing with friends, attending his kids' and grandkids' school events, fishing with the grandkids, working on the farm and just spending time with family.

Survivors include: his wife of What Cheer; two sons Scott ROGERS with Lori of Oskaloosa, and Bryan ROGERS with Lynette of Spicer, Minnesota; one sister, Mary KAUFMAN of Anamosa; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Jerry ROGERS.
