Caroline Marie PENCIL, 78, of Birmingham, died Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with Larry Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Birmingham.
Memorials can be made to Noah's Ark Animal Shelter in Fairfield or to McCreery Cancer Center at Jefferson County Health Center. Online condolences can be made at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.
Mrs. PENCIL was born Dec. 28, 1936, at Bad Axe, Michigan, the daughter of Edward and Edna LAUGHLIN LEYDEN. She married Lawrence PENCIL Feb. 5, 1955, in Fairfield.
Mrs. PENCIL lived most of her life in the Birmingham community. She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1954, where she lettered in basketball.
She had worked at Fairfield Glove Factory and J-Mart convenience store in Birmingham. She was a bus driver for the Van Buren Community School District for 16 years. She owned and operated a ceramic shop.
Mrs. PENCIL served on the Birmingham City Council for 10 years.
She enjoyed sewing, camping, cooking, ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her husband Larry; two daughters, Debra WOLVER and spouse Marlon of Birmingham and Dixie PENCIL also of Birmingham; one son, Charles PENCIL and spouse Olwen of Sonoma, California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and one brother, Dwayne LEYDEN.
