Marcella Margaret CUMMISKEY

Marcella CUMMISKEY, 94, of Currie, Minnesota, died Friday, May 22, 2015.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, with the Rev. Andrew Vogel officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Currie.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. CUMMISKEY was born Jan. 31, 1921, on the family farm south of Currie, Minnesota, the daughter of Valentine and Katherine POTTHOFF RUPPERT. She married Donald Patrick CUMMISKEY Oct. 13, 1945, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie.

Mrs. CUMMISKEY attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and graduated in 1938 at the age of 17. Following high school, she attended the Minneapolis School of Radio and Communications. In the early 1940s, she was a member of the Signal Corps and worked as a radio inspector at Gates Radio in Quincy, Illinois.

After her marriage, she and her husband settled on the CUMMISKEY home place where he farmed until 1947. They moved to Currie when they had an opportunity to purchase the Serr Oil Company, which became the Cummiskey Oil Company. They ran the oil company for more than 20 years. She and her husband also owned and operated the Currie Gambles Store during the late 1960s and mid 1970s.

Mrs. CUMMISKEY was very active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church; she taught CCD for 22 years, sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She enjoyed playing cards, painting, ceramics, gardening, flowers, traveling and nature.

Survivors include: four children, Patrick CUMMISKEY of Gladewater, Texas, Mary BOGGS and husband Greg of Hartford, South Dakota, Timothy CUMMISKEY of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Therese CUMMISKEY of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herb RUPPERT of Marshall, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; four brothers, Harold, Ray, Louis and Orville RUPPERT; and four sisters, Lillian BUSCH, Julia PELTOLA, Irma CARLSON and Leota SILVER.
