BONAPARTE - G. Edith GONTERMAN, 86, of Bonaparte died at 6:58 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at the home of her son, Martin GONTERMAN in rural Bonaparte. Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

Edith GONTERMAN

BONAPARTE - Edith GONTERMAN, 86, of Bonaparte died at 6:58 A.M. Friday, May 1, 2015 at the home of her son, Marty GONTERMAN in rural Bonaparte.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Larry Wagner officiating. Visitation with family present will be 10-11 m.m. (sic) prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Memorials to Heritage Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 32676 210th Street, Bonaparte, Iowa 52620.

She was born July 26, 1928 in rural Bonaparte to Carl R. and Martha M. MURPHY MELLEN and married Jack GONTERMAN June 3, 1950. He died July 1999.

Edith grew up outside Bonaparte on the family farm, graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1945 and the University of Iowa with an accounting degree in 1949. Edith and Jack lived and farmed the family farm until 1994. She worked at Farmers Coop in Bonaparte for 30 years as an accountant and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Keosauqua. She knew the Lord as her Savior. Edith enjoyed quilting and sewing, making quilts, dresses and teddy bears for her grandchildren. Most of all she loved going to garage sales and traveling out west to visit family in California.

Surviving are a son, Marty GONTERMAN (Roberta) of Bonaparte, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her beloved kitties. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Phillip GONTERMAN.
