Robert D. MYERS

Robert D. MYERS, age 84, 2618 Juniper Ave., Fairfield, died at 4:37 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Born October 28, 1919, at Fairfield, the son of Walter A. and Katie Key (sic - Kate Kie) STANFORD MYERS.

A lifetime resident of Jefferson County, he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937. He took flight instructor training at Central College in Pella.

He was a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as an SNJ flight instructor during World War II, and was a helicopter pilot during the Korean War.

He married Evelyn C. BYRNE on December 26, 1945, at Kingsville, Texas.

He farmed all his life in Liberty Township in Jefferson County. He owned and raised horses his whole life and anyone who wore cowboy boots was okay in his sight. He was a nationally credited Appaloosa horse judge and judged all over the United States. He was an Iowa stock horse judge.

He was a 68-year member of Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville and a longtime member of the Appaloosa Horse Club. Bob was an avid card player and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Deceased family members include his parents and brother Orval MYERS.

Surviving are his wife Evelyn; their son William A. MYERS and his fiancee Denise HANDO of Ankeny; 2 grandchildren Katie Jo MYERS and Troy Allen MYERS; his sister Marge HARRIOTT of Florida; his sister-in-law Florence MYERS and 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30th at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Pastor Thomas Raphael-Nakos officiating.

Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral.

A memorial has been established to the Faith United Methodist Church building fund.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
