Russell J. Sedore, 86, of Vernon and formerly of the Fairfield-Keosauqua area, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

The funeral was held today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial was in Harness Cemetery in Mount Sterling.

Open visitation was held Sunday.

Mr. Sedore was born June 10, 1918, in Hemingford, Neb., the son of Harvey and Oletha Russell Sedore. He married Esther Bennett March 26, 1940, in Fairfield.

He farmed for several years and was employed in highway construction for 13 years. He lived in Vernon for 43 years.

Survivors include his wife; eight daughters, Nancy Lawrence of Muscatine, Linda Hermiston of Durant, Carole Pruden of Fairfield, Susan Parrish of Keosauqua, and Phyllis Mitchell, Cynthia Kisling, Candace Horstman and Peggy Troutman, all of Bonaparte; six sons, David Sedore and Lyle Sedore, both of Broken Arrow, Okla., William Sedore of Milton, Lloyd Sedore of Bentonsport, Joe Sedore of Vernon and John Sedore of Kahoka, Mo.; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Pearl Pettit of Machesney Park, Ill., Hazel Reisch of Cantril, Nettie Duke of Memphis, Mo., and Donna VanLaningham of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Harold and Robert Sedore; one granddaughter; one brother, Doyle Sedore; and one sister, Ethelyn Helton.
