John Burger of Springfield, Va., and formerly of Fairfield died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Burke Care Center in Burke, Va.

The funeral will be held Thursday at Advent Funeral Home in Falls Church, Va. Cremains will be returned to Iowa later this summer for interment in the cemetery at Adel.

While living in Fairfield, Mr. Burger was a representative of Blue Cross Blue Shield. He was a former member of the Fairfield City Council. Burger's wife, Betty, who survives, worked in the Jefferson County Clerk of Court office and Iowa State Bank in Fairfield.

The Burgers were members of Fairfield First United Methodist Church.

Local survivors include one of the Burgers' four children, Barbara Hirschler and husband Phil of Fairfield.
