Karen HOLT, 71, of Fairfield, died today, Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is helping the family with arrangements.

Karen (NELSON) HOLT, age 71 of Fairfield, IA passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday December 23 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, IA.

A funeral service will be Wednesday December 24th at 10:00am at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Stacy Grau officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to American Cancer Association or Indian Hills Scholarship Program. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: 2291 Walton Lake Drive, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Karen was born August 16, 1943 to Roy G and Louise (WAGGNER) NELSON in Fairfield, Iowa. She married Ronne HOLT June 2, 1963. This year they celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Karen was a lifelong resident of Fairfield. She graduated from FHS with the Class of 1961. Karen worked at the Nelson Company as a machinist and retired after 35 years of service. She enjoyed traveling to all 50 sates and 15 countries (Cruises) in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. She loved boating, all sports, FHS Trojans, Pekin Panthers, sewing quilts, reading, auctions, garage sales, St Louis Cardinals, Hawkeyes and collecting art. The most important was spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield serving on Education committee and VBS. Karen volunteered at the Bargain Box, American Cancer Society for 35 years, Bike-A-thon and Relay for Life. She was a member of the Walton Club, Elks and President of S.E. Iowa Chapter of P. Buckley Moss Society (14 years). She worked at Family Café and worked at the Root-beer-stand.

Karen is survived by her husband, Ronne HOLT of Fairfield, IA; one daughter, Kristi (Rob) HEGENBARTH of Sheldon, IA; 5 grandchildren, Kirya (Jacob) LOUTH, LCPL Greyden SCEARCY, Jayden, Jaxon and Tommy HEGENBARTH; one brother, Marvin "Pete" (Sue) NELSON of Fairfield, IA; two sisters, Wilma (Ernie) McCREEDY of Fairfield, IA and Delores (Larry) NEWLON of Nebraska; one sister -in-law (sic), Connie MOON of Utah; and Son in-law, Chris SCEARCY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Louise NELSON; and one daughter, Lori "Denise" SCEARCY.
