William VICKERS

William VICKERS, 86, of Bonaparte, died at 8:21 a.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

William F. 'Gray Wolf' VICKERS

William F. "Gray Wolf" VICKERS, 86, of rural Bonaparte died at 8:21 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Of Mr. VICKERS's own accord, the body has been cremated and no services are planned. His cremains will be scattered by his family at a later date on his land.

Memorials to Serve Outdoors Association or Lindsay Wilderness Fund can be mailed to the family at 23044 Hawk Drive, Bonaparte 52620.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua handled the cremation.

Mr. VICKERS was born May 22, 1928, in Bonaparte, the son of William and Marjorie PFEIFER VICKERS. He married Betty J. GREEN July 20, 1951, in Bonaparte Baptist Church.

Mr. VICKERS grew up in Bonaparte, graduated from Bonaparte High School and served in the U.S. Navy.

He lived with his family in Georgia and Arizona in 1957-1972 where he worked in a paper mill. After returning to his hometown, he worked at Fairfield Glove Company and served 10 years on the Van Buren County Conservation Board. He also wrote for the Van Buren Leader-Record and Van Buren County Register newspapers.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his grandkids, eagle watching, hunting, fishing, walking his dogs and telling stories.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty of Bonaparte; two daughters, Bethany PRATT and husband Gene and Tamera SHRIVER, all of Bonaparte; one son, Troy VICKERS and wife Liz of Blue Eye, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Mike SHRIVER; and one great-granddaughter.
