Harold L. WIGGINS

Harold L. WIGGINS, 87, formerly of Packwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

A graveside service, with military rites, is planned for 11 a.m. Saurday at Packwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Frosty Van Voorst officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials can be made to the family or Arbor Court Activity Fund. Cards and memorials can be mailed to 1771 170th St., Mt. Pleasant 52641. Online condolences can be made at www.behnerfh.com.

Mr. WIGGINS was born July 27, 1927, in Hedrick, the son of Ray and Anna SANCHEZ WIGGINS. He married Loretta M. BONNER, Aug. 6, 1954, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. WIGGINS served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict). He worked as a truck driver for Dickey Transport in Packwood, truck sales manager at Vaughn Automotive in Ottumwa, farmed around Packwood and worked part time at Tractor Supply Company in Fairfield.

He was the mayor of Packwood for 22 years and served on the city council for six years.

He enjoyed gardening and yard work. He would do various jobs for the city, like working on the streets, pushing snow and mowing city property.

He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Survivors include: his wife, Loretta WIGGINS of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Tina WIGGINS of Donnellson; one son, Gerald WIGGINS of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Pearl TYGART of Fairfield and Marilyn ELDER of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; five sisters, Naomi SCHARK, Gladys ESTES, Fern NOE, Doris WIMPSET and Frances CLOSSEN; and three brothers, Harlan, Warren and Richard WIGGINS.
