Blanche Elizabeth NELSON

Blanche Elizabeth NELSON, 103, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, with the Rev. Todd Holman officiating.

Behner Funeral Home & Crematory in Fairfield is assisting with the arrangements.

Mrs. NELSON was born May 22, 1911, in Lockridge, the daughter of Garfield and Hilma SODERGREN MESSER. She married Renhold Herman NELSON Jan. 21, 1941. He died April 3, 1965.

Mrs. NELSON resided in Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Burlington throughout her lifetime and was a teacher for seven years, a bookkeeper for Iowa Electric Light and Power for 23 years and, in her "retirement" years, worked another 13 years at Johnson Hardware Store.

Mrs. NELSON loved to travel, garden, bowl, play Rummikub, spend time with her family and friends and watch the Hawkeye and San Antonio Spurs basketball games.

Survivors include: one sister, Thelma RIDINGER of Mt. Pleasant.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: five brothers, Clifford, Paul, Wayne, Howard and Russell MESSER; and one sister, Violet TALLMAN.
