June 01, 2004Ruth E. Ewart, 86, former resident of Sun City Georgetown, Texas and Fairfield, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Austin, Texas.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ewart Cemetery in Pleasant Township south of Grinnell.
Family visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in memory of Ruth E. Ewart to be mailed to Grinnell College, Development Office, 733 Broad St., Grinnell 50112 or Behner Funeral Home and Crematory.
Mrs. Ewart was born July 9, 1917, in Miles City, Mont., the daughter of Harry and Eleanor Dunlap Empting. She married Dauphin Ewart. He died in 1979.
She lived many years in Iowa. She graduated from Grinnell College in 1939 and served as dean of women at Parsons College in Fairfield. She was active in community theater and arts and was an ardent supporter of women's higher education. Later in her career, she operated her own personnel consulting business, called Personnel Consulting Associates, with Ethel Sherman in Fairfield. When she lived in Fairfield, she was a Fairfield City Council member.
Until the last year of her life, she remained active in P.E.O., Austin Chapter, and the Grinnell College Alumni Foundation.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas.
Survivors include her son, Ned Ewart and wife Fran of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Susan Wilson of Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren, Ella, Dauphin, Denzil and Keld Ewart, Gary Cooksey and wife Karen, and Cyndi Thompson and husband Murray; three great-grandchildren, Brett Cooksey and Anthony and Gavin Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
