Charles NEWLAND rites Sunday

BATAVIA - Charles E. NEWLAND, 76, died Thursday afternoon at Ridgewood Care Center in Ottumwa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation is open after noon Saturday. A memorial has been established to the Ridgewood Care Center Activity Fund.

NEWLAND was born Aug. 25, 1911 in Wapello County near Batavia, the son of Charles E. and Anna STEVER NEWLAND. He spent his life in the Batavia area, where he farmed. He married Dorothy I. HULL June 2, 1934. She died March 10, 1986.

Surviving are four daughters, Ruth Ann KOERNER of Hampton, Sonya Gail SULLIVAN of Cascade, Md., Mary Jo BERGLAND of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Doris J. BOOS of Agency; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
