Gladys Marie DURHAM

Gladys Marie DURHAM, 93, of Fairfield, and formerly of Eldon, died Friday, Septe. (sic) 5, 2014, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

The funeral is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eldon Christian Church in Eldon. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery following the service (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Visitation will be open at noon Tuesday at Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Eldon Christian Church. Friends can sign the online guestbook at www.kremerfh.com.

Mrs. DURHAM was born May 3, 1921 in Martinsburg, the daughter of Walter and Delia GIFFEN WOOD. She married Robert DURHAM Nov. 5, 1938, in Eldon. He died in 1986. She married Archie DURHAM. He died in 2007.

Her early years were spent in Martinsburg, before the family moved to Ottumwa where she attended school.

She and her husband Robert called Eldon their home for more than 40 years until his death. Mrs. DURHAM continued to live in the area.

She and her husband Archie DURHAM took a trip on the Mormon Trail in a covered wagon pulled by a team of horses.

Mrs. DURHAM spent 19.5 years as a cook at Cardinal Schools. She also owned a bake shop.

She was a member of Eldon Christian Church and Eldon Lioness Club. She collected dolls and chicken figurines. She quilted.

Survivors include: one daughter, Marcia ROE and husband Mike of Fairfield; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; five stepchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Paul DURHAM; and three brothers, Lloyd, Floyd and Harold WOOD.
