Gladys LOWE

Gladys LOWE, 88, of Washington, Iowa, and formerly of Brighton, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 26, 2014, at All-American Care Center of Washington.

A funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington (note: in Washington Co., IA).

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions for HCI Hospice can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 426 S. Avenue B, Washington 52353.

Mrs. LOWE was born Aug. 20, 1926, near Crawfordsville, the daughter of George "Frank" and Dora PARKER HESSELTINE. She married Raleigh M. LOWE April 3, 1944, in Davenport. He died Sept. 25, 2001.

Mrs. LOWE grew up in Washington County and attended Washington County country schools.

She was a homemaker, helped her husband operate the Hi-Lo Tavern in Brighton and worked at Advance Ross in Washington.

Survivors include: two daughters, Judy DONALDSON of Washington and Carol WOLFER and husband Joe of Sierra Vista, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Rhoda LOWE of Washington; five grandchildren. two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, John "Jack" HESSELTINE of Richland.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edmund LOWE; nine brothers, Gale, Sam, Guy "Swede," Alvin, Rex, Harold "Bubbles," Dallas, Robert and Wayne HESSELTINE; three sisters, Catherine HARRIS, Beulah LONGWELL and Mae MORROW; and special friend, Herb Nash.
