Ryan Matthew BREWINGTON

Ryan Matthew BREWINGTON, 21, of Batavia, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in a car accident on Eldon-Floris Road in Davis County.

A funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Middle School, with the Rev. Jim Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Masonic rites will be recited at 4:30 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, followed by visitation from 5-7 p.m.

Following the funeral and burial, a gathering of family and friends will be held at Jeb's Park, 198 E. Broadway, in Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the education fund for Mr. BREWINGTON's brother.

Mr. BREWINGTON was born July 4, 1992, in Oskaloosa, the son of Jennifer VAN KLOOTWYK and Curtis BREWINGTON.

He grew up in Batavia, attended Fairfield schools, graduating from Fairfield High School in 2010.

He graduated from William Penn University in May. He was scheduled to begin teaching math at the Cardinal Middle School this fall.

He coached Fairfield Little League and served on the Little League board.

Mr. BREWINGTON had worked for Brewington and Sons Construction Company of Batavia.

He loved the Cubs, the Kansas City Chiefs, baseball, slow-pitch softball, football and golf.

He was a member of the Kilwinning Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 198, KAABA Shrine, Fairfield Shrine Club and the Hillbilly Clan 103.

Survivors include his parents, Jennifer and Paul BUNNELL of Batavia and Curtis BREWINGTON of Clinton; one brother, Josh BREWINGTON of Batavia; his grandparents, Marsha BREWINGTON of Mt. Pleasant and John BREWINGTON of Batavia and Connie VAN KLOOTWYK and Richard PALMER of Oskaloosa; and his special friend, Jade Greiner of Packwood.

Batavia man dies in head-on crash

FLORIS -- Ryan BREWINGTON, 21, of Batavia, died as a result of a head-on collision at 6:37 p.m. Wednesday on Eldon-Floris Road in Davis County.

BREWINGTON was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer westbound on the Eldon-Floris Road, three miles east of Floris, according to the Iowa State Patrol crash report. He lost control on a curve, crossed the centerline and was struck in the passenger side by a 2002 Ford Mustang, driven by David Bennett, 56, of Bloomfield, traveling east on the road.

Trudy Bennett, 56, of Bloomfield, also was riding in the Mustang.

All three people involved in the collision were wearing seatbelts.

The Bennetts' Mustang came to rest in the eastbound land of the Eldon-Floris Road.

BREWINGTON's Lancer came to rest in the south ditch on its top.

BREWINGTON was transported by Waglers Funeral Home to Davis County Hospital.

The Bennetts were transported to Davis County Hospital by ambulance with injuries.

BREWINGTON was a 2010 graduate of Fairfield High School

Davis County Sheriff's Department, Davis County Ambulance, Floris and Eldon fire departments assisted the state patrol at the accident scene.
