Virgil LaVerne Haganman, 68, of Wapello died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with Tim Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Parsons Cemetery.

Friends may call 2-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will meet friends prior to the funeral from 9-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established for a scholarship fund at Wapello High School and for the Wapello Rescue Unit.

The son of Robert and Eva Lee Haganman, he was born Dec. 12, 1935, at Swedesburg. He married Margery Ehrlich May 31, 1959, in Fairfield.

After graduating from Birmingham High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He received his bachelor of science in education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and later completed his master's degree in industrial education.

Mr. Haganman taught for 30 years in the Wapello Community School District, teaching power mechanics, industrial arts, driver's education and junior high school social studies and English. After his retirement in 1991, he owned and operated Haganman Garage.

He was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and National Education Association education associations and the Driver's Education Association. He had served on the Wapello school board for a three-year term.

Haganman's hobbies were auto mechanics and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Haganman and wife Nancy of Osage and Chris Haganman and wife Kari of Solon; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, George Haganman of Mount Pleasant and Roger Haganman and wife Janet of Stockport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris; and three infant siblings.
