DR. J. W. HAYDEN DIES TUESDAY.

Well Known Jefferson County Pioneer Passed Away Here at Advanced Age.

Dr. John W. HAYDEN, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Fairfield died last night at his home on West broadway after months of ill health. He was operated upon Monday afternoon, in an effort to prolong his life.

Dr. HAYDEN was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1839 and came to Jefferson county when but seven years old. In 1861 when Lincoln issued the call for volunteers to fight for the union he inlisted (sic) in Company I, Third Iowa Cavalry and served three years, being mustered out of the service at the close of the war and receiving his discharge on September 4, 184 (sic) at Davenport.

In 1867, Dr. HAYDEN was married to Miss Emily BRISTOR, a resident of Henry county. They made their home in Libertyville where Dr. HAYDEN had located soon after having graduated from Keokuk Medical College a short time before his marriage. He built up a very large and extensive practice and was for years one of the most successful physicians of Jefferson county.

About twenty years ago he retired from the active practice of his profession and moved to this city where he has since made ish home (sic) with the exception of a few months which was spent at Siloam Springs, Ark., in the hope of benefitting his failing health. In politics, Dr. HAYDEN was a staunch Republican, taking an active part in all the issues of the party. By reason of his influence and interest, Dr. HAYDEN was elected a representative from this county to the state legislature where he looked after the interests of the prople of the county with untiring interest.

He is survived by his wife and large number of relatives and friends who sincerely mourn his death. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at the First Methodist Episcopal church and interment is to take place in Evergreen cemetery.

The remains were taken to Burlington this afternoon and the funeral services will be held friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of Mrs. Anna Speigel and the interment will take place in the Aspen Grove cemetery. [Note: This paragraph likely belongs in the obituary in the next column, as that person was buried in Burlington.]

Dr. HAYDEN Is Dead.

Dr. J. W. HAYDEN died in this city last evening. He had been in a critical condition for several days, surgery was used as a last resort and he could not rally from the operation. Dr. HAYDEN was a native of Ohio, born in 1839, and came to this county in 1840. He practiced medicine for many years in Libertyville. He was a soldier of the Civil war, a member of Company I, Third Iowa cavalry. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Comrade John W. HAYDEN, one of Fairfield's oldest and most prominent citizens, passed away at about 4 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home on W. Broadway. He was born in Hamilton Co., O., in 1839 and came to Jefferson County when but 7 years of age. He enlisted in Co. I, 3d Iowa Cavalry in 1861 and served three years. In 1867 Dr. HAYDEN was married to Miss Emily BRISTOR, who survives. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the house with interment at Evergreen cemetery.
