C. Ferne HOEFER, 104, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Brighton, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in Mt. Pleasant.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home.

C. Ferne HOEFER, 104, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Brighton, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation opens at 5 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m. Prayers for a Christian Wake begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials for St. Joseph Cemetery Association may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 700 W. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant 52641.

Mrs. HOEFER was born May 6, 1910, in Elsberry, Missouri, the daughter of Jacob and Mary FOSTER COURTNEY. She married Norbert KURTZ Aug. 11, 1931, in East Pleasant Plain. He died Dec. 19, 1964. She married Ethiel "Nick" HOEFER Jan. 24, 1982. He died Dec. 7, 1996.

She graduated from Stockport High School in 1928.

She lived most of her married life on a farm south of Brighton and moved to Mt. Pleasant in January 1997.

She was a member of the Burr Oak Club, St. Joseph Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include one son Kenneth KURTZ and spouse Carol of Brighton; two daughters, Marilyn STROHMAN of Mt. Pleasant and Ruth Ann KEHL of Dubuque; daughter-in-law Helen KURTZ of Brighton; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Alan KURTZ; seven brothers, infant twin brother Carroll, Frank, Clark, Gordon, Herschel, Calvin and Floyd COURTNEY; and five sisters, Grace GARRETT, Leota BROOKHART, Vada HEYDE, Beulah LECHNER and Leora COURTNEY.
