Ralph E. WOODARD, 81, of 16 Schwartz Dr., Ottumwa, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Hospice House.
He was born June 9, 1933, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Norlan Edward and Dorothy Irene WEY WOODARD. He married Joan HURLEY on August 1, 1952. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2005. He married Patricia SHEPHERD October of 2006.
A graduate of Eddyville High School in 1951, he was a state Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.
He worked 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring as a supervisor in 1986.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He loved fishing, watching college sports, NASCAR, playing cards and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Randy (Cindy) WOODARD of Ottumwa; three daughters, Barbara (John) HARTLEY and Linda Sue HUTCHINSON both of Ottumwa and Joni (John) VITTETOE of Omaha; a stepdaughter, Stephanie (Jeff) BECKER of Norfolk, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six brothers, Jerry (Joyce) WOODARD of Ottumwa, Lawrence "Jeep" WOODARD of Eldon, Lloyd WOODARD of Fremont, Norlan A. "Cork" WOODARD of Oskaloosa, Jim (Barbara) WOODARD of Hedrick and Jack (Sue) WOODARD of Batavia; two sisters, Dorothy "DI" (Don) DeMARSE of Oskaloosa and Lois (Kim) KEHE of Tripola.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Shrimplin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties at 927 Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.
