William "Bill" DAY, 96, of Universal City, Texas, formerly of Brighton, died early today, Friday, June 6, 2014, at Esplanade Gardens in Universal City.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

William 'Bill' L. DAY (sic)

William "Bill" K. DAY, 96, of Universal City, Texas, formerly of Brighton, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at Esplanade Gardens Care Center in Universal City.

A funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the Rev. Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton (note: in Washington Co., IA).

The family will greet friends immediately preceding the service, from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 22708 510th Ave., Salol, MN 56756.

Mr. DAY was born April 15, 1918, in Birghton (sic), the son of Wilbur Brinton and Isabelle KILGORE DAY. He married Wanda Ruth SMITH Oct. 20, 1940, in West Chester. She died May 27, 2002.

He grew up in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School.

He and his wife lived in Michigan until 1948, then lived in West Chester until moving to Brighton in 1962.

He farmed and was a field agent for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Washington, Iowa, and became the manager of the ASCS office.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

He was an avid fisherman and an active member of the Kiwanis Club and the Brighton Coffee Club.

He enjoyed Whoopie Days, playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include two adopted daughters, Ida Mae BREWER and spouse Gene of Salol, Minnesota, and Rebecca Ann KIRFMAN and spouse Glen of Ottumwa; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Burtwin DAY of Grinnell; and one sister, Isabell HOLLAND of Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, David and Robert.
