Dorothy Louise SCHENK

Dorothy Louise SCHENK, 92, of Fairfield, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Charles Comfort officiating. A private burial of cremains will be at Grant Cemetery near Rome, Iowa (note: in Henry Co., IA).

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for a brick at Heritage Courtyard or made to First Baptist Church.

Mrs. SCHENK was born Feb. 3, 1922, in rural Fairfield, the daughter of John Earl and Hazel Elizabeth HENDRICKS KANE. She married Elzie MESSER March 12, 1938. He died in 1961. She married Vernon PERSON April 25, 1965. He died in 1967. She married John SCHENK Sept. 26, 1970. He died in 1975.

She lived in Fairfield the past 22 years.

She worked as a waitress for Princess Café and Hi-Hat Café, both in Mt. Pleasant.

She also worked in Mt. Pleasant's mental health facility's housekeeping department before moving to Fairfield.

Her hobbies and interests include traveling with the Heritage Club, bird watching, playing cards and doing puzzle books.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include Kay L. MESSER of Iowa City and David M. MESSER and spouse Nancy of St. Louis; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Alice FERELL of Fairfield, Lee KANE of Urbandale, Les KANE of Arizona and Janyce GANDERS of Oregon.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded by her parents; one son, Robert MESSER; six siblings, Kathryn SHAW, Helen BLUE, Leonard "Sug" KANE and Ruth Ann STEVENS and two infant sisters.
