Beverly Ann ALLEN

Beverly Ann ALLEN, 75, of Iowa City, formerly of Lamoni and Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia.

No visitation is planned.

Kimzey Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. ALLEN was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Lamoni, the daughter of Leroy Walden and Marjorie Marie NINE HARRIS. She married Jimmy Everett ALLEN June 15, 1963, at First Methodist Church in Fairfield.

She graduated from Lamoni High School in 1956.

She attended Parsons College in Fairfield and received a bachelor of arts degree in physical education in 1961.

She taught physical education for a year at Sigourney Junior High in Sigourney. She moved to Hawaii while her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army there.

She returned stateside and moved to Fairfield. Upon her husband's return, the couple made their home in Ottumwa before moving to Iowa City in 1966. It was there she began a long career in the education testing field. She started with ACT in Iowa and then went to NCS, which later became Pearson, as they were companies contracted with work for the Department of Education. She was instrumental in managing call centers which were set up to answer questions and solve problems for the Department of Education. She was a trainer for the employees of the companies in the related fields, working with the software necessary to the companies' functions. She retired in 2004.

She was a member of the Thursday Night Ladies Club, which was made up of her colleagues who shared an interest in antiques.

She loved to be with her grandchildren and share with them in their Wednesday after-school sing-along sessions.

Survivors include her husband Jim of Iowa City; three sons, Mike ALLEN of Iowa City, KC ALLEN of Riverside and Terry ALLEN and his wife Megan of Riverside; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
