Charley A. GORMAN

BATAVIA - The service for Charley A. GORMAN, 91, of Fairfield, formerly of Batavia, who died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Batavia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Pulatie and the Rev. Greg Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation is open at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. A memorial has been established to the organ fund at Batavia United Methodist Church.

GORMAN was born June 8, 1904, in Jefferson County, the son of Charley R. and Lizzie SUTHERLIN GORMAN. He was raised and educated in Batavia, graduating from Batavia High School in 1923. On March 25, 1929, he married Marie LOY of Agency. He farmed in the Batavia area until retiring in 1973. The couple moved to Fairfield in 1992. He was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church, where he was a long-time member of the men's choir, and was on the board of directors of Farmers Telephone Co. in Batavia for 28 years.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, LuAnn DAVIS of Fairfield, Ruth LEAZER of Fort Collins, Colo.; a son, Loy of Batavia; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a half-sister, Dorothy PAGE of California. Two half-brothers, Richard and Merrill GORMAN, preceded him in death.
