AN OLD RESIDENT GONE.

A friend sends us a note of the death of Mrs. Violet HOWELL, which occurred at the home of her son, Joseph D. HOWELL, in Round Prairie Township, on the 20th inst. Mrs. HOWELL was a native of Montgomery County, Va., and was born April 5, 1800, being in her 81st year at the time of her death. She came to this county in 1843, and has resided here ever since. Her husband, John HOWELL, was Jefferson County's second representative in the State Senate, being elected to that position in 1847. To Mr. and Mrs. HOWELL twelve children were born, nine of whom are now living - - two dying in infancy, and one, Lieut. Thos. H. HOWELL, of the 30th Iowa Volunteers, in 1866. The deceased had braved all the dangers and privations of pioneer life, and lived to a ripe old age. . . . .The services were conducted by Rev. J. Lee, the pastor of the church with which she has been identified for many years."
