Local businesswoman Martha DANIELSON dies

Martha B. DANIELSON, 91, 201 E. Burlington Ave., died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 1991, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Mrs. DANIELSON was born Oct. 6, 1899, in Burlington, the daughter of John A. and Wilhelmina KOENIG BAUER. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She married Frank R. DANIELSON on Nov. 1, 1922, in Burlington. He died Dec. 28, 1964.

Mrs. DANIELSON taught school in Des Moines County near Burlington for five years. She and her husband founded the Danielson Motor Company in the early 1920s, beginning as a Chevrolet dealer then moving to Chrysler in 1925. The company also sold Nash as well as Diamond T trucks for many years. The Dodge franchise was added in 1978. At the time of her death, she was president of the Danielson Motor Company.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, was active for many years in Business and Professional Women's Club, Lionels and was a charter member of the Soroptimist Club. She was nominated for State Mother of Iowa in 1970 and received a Certificate of Merit award. The Chrysler Corporation awarded her a life certificate from the Honor Society of Accountants for her many years as bookkeeper and office manager of the Danielson Motor Company.

Surviving are two sons, Chester H., Charles E., both of Fairfield; two daughters, Ruth E. SCHONER of Orlando, Fla., Dorothy M. TRUHLSEN of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Elsie BAUER of Burlington. A son, Robert, and four brothers, Louis, Edward, Carl and John, preceded her in death.
