Former Fairfield woman dies

MARSHALLTOWN - Thelma CARLSON, 66, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday morning at Mary Greeley Hospital at Ames.

She was born Dec. 23, 1921, at Fairfield, the daughter of Tilfred and Bada JOHNSON. She received her schooling in Fairfield and attended Parsons College. After graduation, she taught in the Pleasant Run schools.

On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Leroy CARLSON. The couple made their home in Salina before moving to Marshalltown in 1956.

Mrs. CARLSON was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mary's Circle, held various church offices and participated in the Home Health Aide program and Witenagemote Club.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Thomas of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Susan MOGARD of Ames; four grandchildren; and a brother, Maynard JOHNSON of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Burial will be in Salina Cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown after 4 p.m. Friday.
