Floyd C. "Bill" MATTHEWS, 88, died at 4:30 a.m. today at Nelson Nursing Home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience beginning at noon Wednesday. Memorials have been established to the Fairfield Public Library and the Christian Children's Fund.

MATTHEWS was born Oct. 22, 1898 at Atwood, Kan., the son of Clifford Cullen and Emma Lou KENDALL MATTHEWS. He married Clarice Grace MILLER May 21, 1917 at Centerville. They lived their entire married life in Fairfield. He was a coremaker at Iowa Malleable Iron and member of the Molders Union and Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Vivienne WHITE ALVINE of Fairfield; a grandson, Barry WHITE of Wheaton, Ill., and a brother, Carl MATTHEWS of Ottawa, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
