Carla Louise Campbell, 56, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center, following a brief battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Edward Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Great River Hospice, First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant or New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Campbell was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Carl and Helen Snyder Black. Oct. 14, 1966, she married Dale M. Campbell in Mount Pleasant.

She spent her early years in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966.

Her first employer was Capital Savings and Loan in Mount Pleasant. Later, she was employed as a teacher's aide at the Pleasant Lawn School. From 1995, she offered day care services, and was employed by Owl's Nest Child Care and Preschool when her health failed in December.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the 79 Club, a neighborhood women's club. She served as a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader. She read, watched NASCAR races and took motorcycle trips. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Cindy Smith and husband Brian of Mount Pleasant and Brenda Sporkman and husband Mike of West Point; one son, Dan Campbell of Des Moines; her mother, Helen Black of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Frank Black of Savannah, Ga., and Paul Black of Des Moines; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.
