Jane BRIGGS

Jane BRIGGS, 81 205 E. Buchanan Ave., died at 8:06 p.m. Friday, March 8, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery will be at a later date following cremation after the service. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Jefferson County Conservation Board and Fairfield Public Library.

Ida Jane BRIGGS was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Fairfield, the daughter of William H. and Margarette Elizabeth FRANZ FAULKNER. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1933. On June 3, 1934, she married William H. BRIGGS at the Presbyterian Manse in Fairfield. She was a lifetime resident of Fairfield, except from 1979 to 1987, when the couple lived in Missouri. She was office manager for Briggs Plumbing and Heating, which she and her husband owned and operated in Fairfield.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Fairfield, and had been organist for two churches when she lived in Missouri. She was a member of the Fairfield High School Band and Orchestra, had a dance band while she was in school, and had played the piano for the silent movies at the Victory Theater in Fairfield. She was a past president of Fairfield Soroptomist Club. She and her husband were charter members of the Fairfield Weakenders Club and were active with the club in the implementation of the conservation movement. She also was interested in family genealogy.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mary Jane HARWARD of Fairfield; two sons, William M. of Fairfield, John F. of New Berlin, Wis.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite RANARD of Des Moines. Twelve brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
